　　1. What is it that Joe can’t find in the bathroom？

　　本句使用了強(qiáng)調(diào)句型 It is/was+被強(qiáng)調(diào)成分+that+其他成分，它常用來強(qiáng)調(diào)句子中除謂語動(dòng)詞外的各種成分。

　　若被強(qiáng)調(diào)的部分是人，that可以被who替代； 如果把is/was置于句首，則構(gòu)成強(qiáng)調(diào)句的一般疑問句； 如果對(duì)被強(qiáng)調(diào)的部分進(jìn)行提問，則構(gòu)成了強(qiáng)調(diào)句的特殊疑問句，本句就屬于這種結(jié)構(gòu)。如：

　　It was an old magazine that Mary found in the bag.

　　Was it an old magazine that Mary found in the bag？

　　What was it that Mary found in the bag？

　　2. However，the number of people who learn English as a foreign language is more than 750 million. （Reading）

　　There are a great many American Indian words，for example to howl means to cry。（Integrating Skills）

　　the number of……表示……的數(shù)量，a great/good many相當(dāng)于many或a large/great number of，表示許多的，大量的，其后跟可數(shù)名詞的復(fù)數(shù)形式，不可跟不可數(shù)名詞。如：

　　The number of trees on the deserted mount is over 200，000.

　　在那片荒山上種植的樹木數(shù)量已超過二十萬棵。

　　A great many（A number of） visitors come to the Palace Museum every year.

　　每年有大量的游客來故宮參觀。

　　3. At the same time，British English and American English started borrowing words from other languages，ending up with different words.

　　句子中ending up with different words為？鄄ing形式短語，在句子中作結(jié)果狀語。？鄄ing形式在句子中可以用作狀語，說明時(shí)間、方式、伴隨狀態(tài)、原因、條件、結(jié)果等。如：

　　The man took an axe with him into the woods，cutting down many trees.（結(jié)果狀語）

　　那個(gè)人手里拿著一把斧子走進(jìn)樹林里，砍倒了許多樹。
